Event Overview 

Through this event, UNESCO calls for new and innovative well-designed Poverty Reduction and Social Protection (PRSP) policies, such as its innovative “Aristotle’s Framework for Action” Initiative for increasing the middle class for a better, stable, and just society, focusing on the well-being and development of the most vulnerable and most impoverished 20-30 percent of each region’s population, i.e. with incomes of $1.25 USD or less, and enacting the principle of ”Leaving No One Behind”. This will take place by transforming the poor villages into Agro-based Technopolis (AbT) i.e. new societies with a concentration of technology-based businesses (emphasis on both digital and non-digital green technologies) to replace most of the rural poor villages and small towns. CC and SD knowledge-related Education and Utilization virtual Centers of Excellence will be promoted and adopted including e-governance capacity-building modules. These technopoles will necessarily adopt the Cooperatives Governance and Financial (CGF) Model to facilitate better commodities flow through new supply chains and attract financial institutions and banks for improved opportunities of financing and/or micro financing for all activities within the agro-based technopolis (economic dimension). This will also allow for strong partnerships between local cooperatives with global private sector for localized mass production of pre-defined set of green products & SMEs creation. This model will also greatly facilitate in many ways microfinance and the creation of new markets for all localized commodities locally produced, while it is expected to trigger a reverse city-to-rural migration cycle. This side event will contribute to the adaptation and mitigation goals of COP27, and multiple SDGs.
